IPL has more than 15 years of experience in hair removal and it has been shown that the result is permanent or lasting for several years. There are several factors that allow the body to build up new hair in areas that have been previously treated. It can be hormonal changes in the body or medication and also that hair that has been dormant for several years can begin to be activated. These new hairs have therefore not been previously treated with IPL, which is why finishing may be relevant.
The treatment first begins with a consultation to ensure that the customer is receptive to the treatment. The area to be treated is shaved and a cold gel is applied to the skin. The gel is used to lead the light pulses into the hair follicles. The therapist then begins the treatment by destroying hair follicles during the active growth phase by sweeping over the IPL light with fast movements over the entire area. As mentioned before, the treatments only reach hair that is during the active growth phase. Therefore, you should count on about four to eight treatments until you have reached all hair follicles. Some other factors that can affect the number of treatments are skin type, number of hair follicles, the structure of the hair and the area of the body. As this is individual, the treatment time can vary between different people.
A slight redness may occur which is transient. The hair that has been treated falls away two to three weeks after the treatment. The skin feels soft and smooth until the next growth phase is activated, when it is time for the next treatment. One to two months waiting time between treatments is expected (this depends on the area being treated).
